Privacy Policy
Draft — last updated July 2026. Have this reviewed by a lawyer before publishing.
The short version: we don't run analytics or ad trackers, we don't sell or share data, and the only personal information we ask for anywhere on this site is an email address — and only if you choose to join the newsletter.
1. What we collect
The Fiveash Foundation website is intentionally built to collect as little as possible:
- Trial search & filters: searches, filters, and map interactions happen in your browser and are sent only to our own server, which forwards the query to ClinicalTrials.gov to fetch results. We do not log, store, or associate these searches with you.
- "Near me" distance search: if you tap "Use my location," your browser shares your device's coordinates with our server for that one search, so we can filter trials by distance. We don't store this location, log it, or use it for anything beyond that single request. This only happens if you tap the button — it's never used automatically.
- Newsletter signup: if you subscribe to the monthly research digest, we collect your email address. Nothing else — no name, no location, no account required.
2. What we don't collect
- No cookies used for tracking or advertising
- No analytics scripts (Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or similar)
- No account creation, so no passwords or profiles to store
- No stored or persistent location data — your device's location is only ever used live, for the single search you asked for, and only if you tap "Use my location"
- No health information, symptoms, or diagnoses — we never ask, and please don't send us any through the contact form
3. Third parties involved in running this site
A handful of infrastructure providers are involved in simply making the site work. None of them receive anything beyond standard technical request data (like any website generates):
- ClinicalTrials.gov (U.S. National Library of Medicine): our server queries their public API on your behalf. Your browser never contacts them directly, and your search terms are not linked to you.
- Buttondown: our email newsletter provider. If you subscribe, your email address is stored in Buttondown on our behalf, governed by Buttondown's privacy policy. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email.
- Vercel (hosting), OpenStreetMap / CARTO (map tiles), Google Fonts, cdnjs: standard web infrastructure that, like virtually any website, may log basic technical data (IP address, browser type) purely for security and uptime purposes. We do not access or use these logs for tracking.
4. Your choices
- You can use the trial matcher fully without giving us any information.
- You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time, no questions asked.
- You can request that we confirm whether we hold any data about you by contacting us (see Contact page).
5. Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13 (or the relevant age of consent in your country).
6. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in any meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
7. Contact
Questions about this policy or your data can be sent to thefiveashfoundation@gmail.com.
